How to Avoid Burning Out from Content Creation.
My biggest problem with making YouTube videos was that it never seemed to end.
I’d have to plan the video, film it, edit it, film any extra scenes and then edit it again, and then finally publish it. Then, I’d have to start the process all over again.
Sadly, especially when I had a full time job, this took a lot of time. I’d be doing this during whatever breaks I had or when I got home from work. I’d stay up late editing.
It never seemed to end.
It comes as no surprise why YouTubers burn out. Creating videos takes time. Creating good videos takes even more. And even for someone like me, who has been doing this for quite some time now, it can still take a good chunk of time and effort to create.
So for those of you who are out there creating content for your businesses or just for yourself, I offer you some simple tips that will hopefully save you time.
Tip #1 - Simplicity is Underrated
If you’re making videos full time, then it makes sense for you to spend tons of time on a video. For most of you, that isn’t the case.
A simple video that gives good information is better than no video at all (and sometimes better than a complex video). The most important thing is to get your message out there. Nowadays, my YouTube videos are incredibly simple, but it allows me to spend more time on the message of the video.
So be simple. Don’t do anything incredibly fancy. The message matters more.
Tip #2 - Batch your Recordings
This is something I’ve started doing that’s made my life a lot easier. All it takes is some planning and a chunk of time.
Record multiple videos at once. Pick three topics, write out your ideas and then choose a day to record all of them. This will take a lot of stress off your plate and give you more time to edit your work.
Tip #3 - Take Breaks
This one is probably the best tip I can give you.
Take breaks. Take a pause for a few weeks and come back to it. Give yourself time to batch your recordings and release.
It allows you to enjoy the process of creation and spend time doing things that matter. It also allows you to come in with a fresh mindset and think of new ideas you want to incorporate.
You’re probably thinking that, by not creating content, you are ‘killing your momentum’ or ‘disrupting the algorithm. And that’s just absolutely not true.
When I took a break from YouTube, I went up almost 20 subscribers. I literally posted no content and I got subscribers.
Hopefully, those three tips can help you create content without the pressure of burning out. I’ve burnt out from content creation and it’s not fun. You feel less creative and your quality goes down.
Follow these three tips and keep creating content.
