The Most Effective Way of Creating Content - Batching Your Content

Before I ran a video production business, I started off making YouTube videos. It’s where I found my passion for creating videos and where I got to experiment.

But man, it was hard.

The hardest part was keeping up with creating content. I planned to release a new video every week, and although I did actually release a video most weeks, it was exhausting. I would reach content burnout quite fast.

Now, as a video professional, I see a lot of people falling into the same trap. You’re trying to create content daily or weekly, and you feel overwhelmed with juggling your marketing and doing what you love.

And it’s not just video, it’s regular content too. Content takes a TON of time.

So today, I’m going to share a massive tip: batching your content.

Watch the video below to hear my story and where I give a few tips on how to batch your content.

Batching your content is when you create multiple pieces of content that you plan on sharing for extended period of one time in one go. So instead of doing what I did, where I created a new video every week, you’re doing multiple in a week.

But you’re probably wondering - isn’t that just as hard (or even harder)?

No. And here’s why!

To set up all your equipment, to get in the mindset of creating content, to have the energy - that’s a lot of preparation you have to do for just one piece of content. If you create two pieces of content in one sitting, you only need to set up your equipment and find the time once!

My problem that I faced was that I’d have to set up my camera, lights, audio and film everything for one video. Then, the next time I had to film, I had to set up the camera, lights and audio again. Not only that, I wasn’t in the mood to film every day. Set up takes a good amount of time.

The video you see above was actually part of my batch of video I made for the next few months. Now I don’t need to pull out the camera - I just head to my desk, get the video ready and send it out.

Okay, batching content is the way. So what do I do now?

Here are a few tips for batching content:

  1. Write down as many ideas for content as you can before you begin to create
This way, when you begin to create, you have a pool of content ideas instead of having to think about it on the spot.

  2. Plan out your ideas as much as you can
For ideas you know you’ll be creating, plan out a few ideas in advance. You don’t need to write the whole thing, but you can write a few ideas you KNOW you want to cover.

  3. Take breaks
Creating batch content can be really tiring, especially if its video. Remember to take breaks and step away from the work for a moment. It’ll allow you to stay sane while creating.

  4. BONUS: Set a time to create content
It’s always great to create spontaneously, but it also rarely works. Set a time in your calendar to batch your content. Dedicate one hour to creating for the week, and then you don’t have to worry about content making for the rest of the week!

If I batched my content when I was creating my YouTube videos, it would’ve made my life a LOT easier. Batching content allows you to finish all your marketing and get back to what you really want to do!
