How to Build Trust With Your Audience
Trust is one of the most important things in business - actually, in life. So let’s get into this topic with a little story.
Recently, I had to buy a camera and I was looking around. I found two offers - one was cheaper than the other and closer to where I live.
However, the more expensive one was sold by someone I knew - well, I didn’t know them personally.
I followed them on Instagram and saw their work on YouTube. Even though I didn't know them, I knew that they would’ve taken excellent care of the camera.
So I went with the one that was more expensive and required me to travel more.
Why am I telling you this? It’s because trust sells. Think about the people you rely on in case you’re in an emergency - they’re the people you know extremely well. You’ve made your judgements about them and you trust them.
Trust is so important in business, especially today with our market shifting more to e-commerce. When you walk into a store, you’re greeted by people. You usually chat before you get down to business. You have a feeling about whether the person is trying to take advantage of you. With e-commerce, that option isn’t really there.
But there is a solution. Tell people who you are.
By simply revealing who you are, people feel more confident that they’re dealing with someone (instead of any automated service). By telling us more about you, you’re allowing us to connect with you. Think about the amount of times we’ve bonded with people over things like favourite soccer team or even a country we visited during our vacation.
And this is where video comes in. You don’t need a professionally produced video to do this either - just grab your phone camera and talk. Give a short 30 second introduction. Just by doing this, you’re telling people that you’re responsible of taking care of them and you’re up to the task.
With our clients, some of the first video projects we work on are videos that tell us who they are and what they do. These videos live on our clients’ website and invites the audience to get to know the business a lot better. That’s why, when we create any video with our client, we work hard to get to know them and understand what they do.
Although you can do this with many different types of media, video is our favourite because you can hear and see the person you’re talking to. You learn so much about someone in a video compared to a photo or text.
So to sum it up, if you want to build trust with your audience, you need to tell people who you are.
On a final note, trust is something that is built over time. Sadly, one post won’t build trust with everyone - but it’s a start. The more you are there and present for your audience, the more they can trust you. You can’t be a leader without trust.
