How to Make Your Content Memorable

Our world is filled with noise. People are uploading content constantly, whether it’s a video, photo or even an article like this one. People are fighting for attention, and with so much choice, it’s hard to get them to click on your content let alone absorbing the message.

content on social media

There’s two problems here, and let’s start with the most important one: getting your message to stick.

You’re probably uploading content on social media or your blog, and chances are that your audience is consuming it. Whether it’s a photo on Instagram or a post on LinkedIn, someone out there is checking it out.

But with so much content bombarding people 24/7, it’s hard for anyone to remember every single piece of content they click on. They’ll only remember the ones that are either incredibly relevant to them in the moment or one that stands out.

Many people use different techniques like contrasting colours, flashing lights, jingles. And those will be effective, but none of it will matter if your audience doesn’t remember what you said.

So how do you make your content memorable? Storytelling.

People love stories. People also love telling and hearing stories. We tell stories everyday — interesting things that happen to us on our way to work, at school or even something we see outside our car. We love it, and it’s memorable.

And the same needs to happen with our content. We need to tell a story.

Look at the photo above. Which caption do you prefer?

  1. Our cheeseburger is only $9.99. Buy it today!

  2. A burger is only as good as it’s sauce. Our house sauce was made by accident when Mateen was trying to be creative and impress his wife with a home-cooked meal. Ever since then, we top all of our burgers with our house sauce. Come on in and try it today!

I personally prefer #2 because it gives me something specific and gives me a story. #1 doesn’t stand out because it’s generic and doesn’t try to connect with me, but #2 is more open and vulnerable. It’s interesting and more captivating.

As a professional videographer, I know that storytelling is the most important way to make sure my client’s message is memorable. Your audience wants to know who you are. They want to see if you’re trustworthy. Authentic storytelling is memorable and effective.

Now as I end the article, I want to add that storytelling is a lot more difficult than it seems. If you’re reading this and feel a little anxious about how to apply it, don’t worry. Ask yourself why you’re sharing this piece of content and figure out what’s the story behind what you’re posting? It comes with practice, so just keep trying!

My job is to help people tell their story in an authentic and meaningful way. The Curious Society is all about creating memorable stories that resonate with your audience, so that you can focus on creating the best business. Contact me today and let’s get your story told.
