Your Content is Your Story

There’s an old question that goes, “if a tree fell in a forest and no one was there to see it, did it actually happen?”

I’m going to change that question. If you did something remarkable and no one was there to see it, did it actually happen?

creating content that tells stories

The answer is yes, but to your audience it’s basically no. Businesses are doing cool things everyday. Contrary to what some people might think, professionals and creatives are working day and night to make what they do better and to come up with better ideas. We’re not stagnant — we are constantly improving.

And yet our audience doesn’t know this. Why? Because it’s not being documented.

Social media allows us to reach our audience a lot easier, but it also allows us to share our story. As a consumer, I want to know about your story. I want to know what struggles you’ve overcome, what new advancements you’re making, what things you’re up to.

Think about it this way. We all watch sports, but we know more than the score. We know who the players are, where they’re from, the coach — this is information we want. Just like that, people want to know the amazing things you do on a daily basis.

So now that I’ve (hopefully) convinced you, how do you do this?

Content.

Your Instagram feed shouldn’t just be promotions and sales. Your Instagram feed should be your history. It should document your journey as an entrepreneur or creative. Social media is storytelling. It allows for me to see where you are and get excited for what comes next.

So if there’s anything you should take away from this post, it’s that you need to document your story. You are doing amazing things, and they are worthy of being seen by your customers and clients. It could be a small post on social media or even a promotional video, but getting the word out is important.

Because, if no one sees it, it’s almost like it didn’t really happen.

I work with clients to help them document their story in an authentic, creative and memorable way using video. This can definitely seem intimidating, and I totally understand. I want to help you so that you can focus on making your business better. Contact me to talk about your next video project or just to have a quick chat!
